Turmeric is a very popular spice for its powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
Turmeric has been used as a medicine for centuries in South Asian countries and India. It is also often used in modern herbal medicine for its beneficial effects in many health ailments.
But did you know that the turmeric essential oil extracted from the roots of the turmeric plant is just as good as turmeric itself?
Turmeric essential oil is rich in antioxidants and has powerful anti-inflammatory properties.
The essential oil has an abundance of antioxidants and has antibacterial, antimicrobial and antifungal properties that work great on your skin and hair.
Turmeric oil is a pungent and powerful oil with a beautiful bright yellow color, but keep in mind that it can stain clothes, pillows or sheets.
Application
You can use turmeric essential oil:
- In aromatherapy, after a long, hard day at work, a few drops of turmeric oil in a diffuser will calm you down completely.
- In your hair products, to keep your scalp healthy, or for dandruff. Mix 2 tablespoons of a carrier oil (eg jojoba or argan oil) with a few drops of turmeric oil. Apply to the hair and wash off the hair mask after 30 minutes with lukewarm water.
- To loosen stiff muscles again. It helps facilitate fluid retention and is also used to aid digestion.
Tip: Essential oils are best mixed with a carrier oil for optimal use. The rule of thumb is that you mix two drops of essential oil with one teaspoon of carrier oil (about 100 drops).
