Ginger oil is an essential oil, which is made by steam distillation of the ginger plant, also called Zingiber officinale.
Ginger essential oil has a unique scent that can be described as warm, strong and spicy. The oil is therefore often used in aromatherapy and as a cosmetic ingredient for hair and skin treatments.
Ginger oil is very antioxidant and therefore very suitable to fight fine lines and wrinkles.
The benefits of ginger oil are very similar to those of the ginger spice, although ginger oil is even more potent because of its higher concentration of Gingerol, a substance with very strong antioxidant and antibacterial properties.

Application
You can use ginger essential oil:
- To stimulate blood flow to your scalp: Dilute a few drops of ginger oil with a carrier oil such as jojoba, castor or argan oil, and massage it into your hair. Leave it on for 20 minutes and rinse your hair with lukewarm water.
- In your DIY body butter, to intensely hydrate your entire body. Below you will find a recipe to make your own body butter.
This is how you make a delicious, intense and nourishing body butter.
Ingredients:
- 50 grams of shea butter
- 25 ml coconut oil
- 12.5 ml sweet almond oil
- 7 ml jojoba oil
- 3.5 grams of beeswax
- ¼ tablespoon of vitamin E oil
- 3-4 drops of ginger oil
Mix all ingredients, except the vitamin E and ginger oil, in a glass bowl or au-bain-marie melting pan.
Let the ingredients melt gently in a bain-marie. When all ingredients have melted, let the mixture cool slightly, until the liquid is no longer translucent.
Add the vitamin E and ginger oil to the butter, and beat the liquid with a whisk for 3-5 minutes, until you obtain a body butter. You can also use an electric beater for this. Store the butter in a jar or tin in a cool place. Enjoy your homemade body butter :-)
