Aleppo soap is a traditional hard soap that takes its name from the city of Aleppo in Syria. The soap is usually made from olive oil, lye and bay berry oil.
In recent years, this soap has been gaining popularity among people with skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis, as it can be used on sensitive skin without causing irritation. Aleppo soap also contains fewer chemicals than most commercial soaps and contains no fragrances or other additives that can irritate the skin.
Traditionally, Aleppo soap is made by boiling olive oil in an underground vat with water and lye for three days. . This is then poured into molds and allowed to cure for two weeks. The soap can be sold with all kinds of motifs on it or in its natural state.
