Ghassoul (also called Rhassoul or Moroccan red clay) is a volcanic clay extracted from the Moroccan Atlas Mountains.
The clay is hypo-allergenic and contains many minerals such as calcium, potassium, magnesium and silicon. When used in a body scrub or face mask, it helps absorb excess sebum and remove impurities. That is why it is very suitable if you suffer from acne, oily or dry skin.
It is also a fantastic ingredient to add to your hair mask or you can also just use it pure as a shampoo, to give your hair more shine and volume.
Application
You can use ghassoul powder:
- As face mask: Mix with a little water or hydrosol (eg witch hazel or rose water) until you obtain a spreadable mixture. If it's too thick, add a little liquid, if it's too thin, add some more clay. Apply to your face and leave for 10 minutes. Rinse it off with water, and possibly wash your face with a mild soap
- As shampoo: Mix with aloe vera juice and water (about 3 tablespoons ghassoul, 1 tablespoon aloe vera juice and enough water to make a liquid paste) and apply to your hair. Massage well and let it soak in for 5-10 minutes and then rinse your hair.
